Yes, Ukiah had a killing in a similar situation a few years ago. It raised a pretty big stink at the time; the cops obviously learned a great deal from the previous incident, and I applaud them for it.
I was "involved" in another story about 6 months ago, which ended up on the John Walsh Show. A cop responded to a shop-lifting at WalMart. The suspect's boyfriend came up behind the security guard, stabbed him, shot the cop 5 times, went to the police car to try and get the gun out of it. The cop had been shot in one hand, the other arm, grazed in the neck, and a shot or two off his flak jacket. He was unable to draw his revolver. He had a Boy Scout intern riding with him. The kid drew the gun and gave it to the cop, who shot the guy in the head and the butt. We worked on him for about 3 minutes B4 the doc called the code. We thought he had no brain. Turned out the head shot went around the skull and out the back; the butt shot hit a bone and went up thru his belly, and he died from hemorrhage, not brain trauma. Death is strange.
