I am not for hand-outs, but am for helping hands. Why? because it saves money in the long run. Give the poor basic health care and they wont show up at emergency rooms. Give the underclass education and they wont turn to crime, drugs, alchohol and become hopeless do-nothings. Give single mothers some help raising their kids and the kids might turn out better, and mothers aren't punished just because their man ran out on them. But don't just give it out without strict guidelines. Agreed.

Of coutrse we cant afford to do any of this now with Bush's tax cuts benefiting the most wealthy. And it is estimated 10 billion per year will get sucked out of charities because of the tax cuts for the rich. And the government isn't going to replace it. Another injustice. Bottomline, the 90's economy was great so why fix it? It wasn't broken. And BTW the markets love federal governments with balanced budgets. And Bush tax cuts have made local taxes go up. So it's a wash anyway. We're a poorer nation all around under Bush.
