My take is this: if people get comfortable leaving their retirement up to the vagaries of the stock market, this country is going to be in a lot of trouble when the boomers start retiring en-masse.

There is no doubt the strategy has been to "scare" people out of their safe haven bonds by lowering interest rates below the inflation rate. Also, I think this is very beneficial to the average borrower. However, I believe the low interest rate environment has pulled a lot of marginal borrowers into the equation. The unemployment situation is going to erode the pool of marginal borrows by making them unable to meet their debt obligations. I wouldn't be an ardent bull until that wave of big spenders has been washed away.

Nothing wrong with nibbling, though. <ggg>
