You don't create any jobs by putting money in a bank.

In any case, many of the high-paying jobs are now being exported to India and other places! :-(

Pretty soon, there will be two kinds of people in the US -- the very rich, and the lower-middle-class/poor folks who will do the jobs that cannot be exported -- like gardeners, caddies, barbers, butlers etc.

Yes, under our current much corrupted and convoluted tax code, the Middle Classes are the 'Beast of Burden' for our national finances. They pay the highest average effective rates (once the effect of all those loopholes is factored in.)

The top 50% in income, which includes a slice of the upper middle class, of course, pay over 90% of taxes. It will take quite awhile for there to be a big "flip", if ever.

There is no sense in saying that "banks are run largely by computers", as if I had suggested creating bank jobs. Money in the bank underwrites both consumer and business loans. As far as letting the federal government make social investments, a market economy submits as much as possible to the discipline of the market in making productive investment. As much as possible, investment should be voluntary and self- supporting, not coerced and unable to survive without subsidy. In any event, the voters determine how much they are willing to spend on various projects, and, as it happens, they think they are spending about the right amount.
