What is humorous about this discussion is that hedonic adjustments were instituted largely in an attempt to measure the GDP in terms of quality instead of simply adding up prices and adjusting for inflation. Which is the thing that DAK complains isn't in the numbers. In other words, you can say that the GDP is growing by X but you can't say whether it's good or bad. It's always problematic whenever people try to introduce subjective criteria into what is suppose to be an objective measure of output. What is worth twice as much to you, is not necessarily worth twice as much to me. Ray should be happy that the good folks at Google have a better use for all that computing power he claims doesn't make him twice as productive.
