From the Voice:
When United States president George W Bush visits Africa this week, he won’t be meeting the continent’s most famous son.

Zelda la Grange, Nelson Mandela’s spokesperson, said the former president would not meet Bush during his two-day visit to South Africa. “We will be out of the country during Bush’s visit, so it is out of the question. But they have also not asked for a meeting.”

In fact Mandela, 85 years old this month, will be in Britain – he met PM Tony Blair last week – giving a lecture for the British Red Cross.
Mandela has been extremely critical of the US president over his handling of the Iraq war, and has condemned the decision to go to war without UN sanction.

He has said Bush “cannot think properly” and has joked that he plans to speak to his father, former US president George Bush, about him.

I am unfamiliar with the incident? [Durban anti-racism "conference"]

I'm really surprised anyone doesn't remember that since it was widely in the news. All the more that the conference ended just before the 9/11 attacks (that timing was surely a coincidence though.). The conference was more or less hijacked by Israel haters and anti-globalization idiots to spew their agendas. These people had no business whatsoever being at the conference imho. There are many cases of racism worldwide that don't get the kind of coverage they should because of this stupid Israel obsession on the part of the UN and the news media, and such a conference could have been useful in making these things more well known.

Try a Google search for Durban + anti-racism conference, you'll see tons of hits.

Is this the reason Bush did not meet with Mandela?

I don't actually know, it could be a combination of factors. And with all the noise that France in particular has made in fanning anti-Americanism over the Iraq invasion, I don't recall hearing much of anything from Mandela.

I hope more actually comes from Bush's tour in Africa, since Clinton also took a tour but nothing much concrete resulted that I recall.

Why should Bush meet with Mandela? He isn't even a head of state anymore. You obviously seem to give such a non-event quite a bit of weight.
