Rob, <Don't forget device-to-device connections. (i.e. machines talking to each other)
That could be a very large market, imho

I am well aware of It and It's need to talk to Itself. Just as we do to ourselves. We keep an ear to the ground, shoulder to the wheel, nose to the grindstone, hands on the wheel, back to the wall, head on our shoulders, feet on the ground, eye on the ball, and talk to ourselves in a constant internal monologue, "I think I'll buy more Q. Hmmmm, maybe WiFi will beat it. But WiFi can't reach more than 100 metres. Yes, but with enough access points it doesn't need to. Too far is a disadvantage - spectrum pollution. True, but what about Flarion? And how come my head hurts?"

It will need to maintain a worldwide and intergalactic consciousness and that'll take a vast array of sensory input, even without the connections the human world will need during the symbiotic phase of life with It before we get left behind as anachronistic bio beings. We'll have to make do with mating, arguing, playing footy, drinking beer and going fishing, same as usual. It seems to be about all we're really fit for.

You are right, the world's silicon, germanium and gallium and related stuff will be reformed into a cybersphere. That'll take a LOT of CDMA. Not to mention a lot of WiFi. It'll be illegal not to carry [or wear or have implanted] cybersphere links. Heck we even have to wear crash helmets, seat belts and drive at absurdly slow speeds. They won't let us loose without being cybersphere linked. People could get lost. It's for their own good to be hooked up. Not to mention their protection against terrorists and other criminal elements.
