<<<WASHINGTON (July 9) - The United States and the international community sat by for a decade as Afghanistan became ``a terrorist Disneyland'' where attackers were trained and assaults were planned, a terrorism expert testified Wednesday >>>>
Yup: Here is a report from June 2000 ,the Executive Summary, National Commission on Terrorism Report
<<<< Terrorists today "seek to inflict mass casualties" in the United States and overseas, according to a
new 44-page report issued June 5 by the bipartisan National Commission on Terrorism.<<<

The dangers and enemies were known as well as things that should have been done.
What did Bill Clinton do about it?
It would be 9 months before GWB was in Washington with a Cabinet and somewhat briefed on the job.

And here , nearly 3 years later ,is testimony given at the "First public hearing of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States"
<<<And, that is why I am here with all of you today. Because, we must find the answers as to what happened that day so as to ensure that another September 11th can never happen again.>>>

So the wheels of Government turn slowly, veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrryyyy
slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwly Far too slowly , like the 8 years of UN Inspections in Iraq , to respond to tomorrows Terrorist act before it happens. GWB has got the Institutions all shook up, and changing, and they hate that but he has Congressional support for the work being done
We are not going to wait three months after an enemy attacks, and plea for the UN to let us strike back.
We will strike back so fast it may look like we started it.
Terrorists beware

US had knowledge of Al Qaida Threat, Expert Says....(for a Decade the article says~~!)

I've known about it for over 14 years myself...

But the reality is that few could foresee the severity, nor the depth of planning, ingenuity, and resources at the militants disposal.

We keep thinking car bombs.. suicide bombs, dirty bombs, and, worst case, biological bombs..

We're a vulnerable society because we're open. And open societies have to accept that the risk of terrorism exists. But as someone who's been affiliated with security related issues over the period, I'm the last person to advocate sacrificing our fundamental freedoms in the name of creating a "Fortress Amerika"..

Which is why I'm glad that Bush is taking the battle to the enemy's home turf.. And hopefully they will straighten out this post-war boondoggle and understand that winning the war is often easy. It's winning the peace, or at least keeping your enemies off balance, that's difficult.
