That is a lot of the difference, and a reason for frustration in these debates. We have people here who think that it is normal for politicians to have a severe disconnect between their stated positions and their real aims (there is often some divergence, but not acute or pervasive). Then they think that politicians they don't like, as, for example, Republicans, are extremely phony, and hiding a malevolent agenda. There is little common ground for discussion if some parties take it for granted that there is a massive manipulation of the public going on..........
