About 100% ofthe population of Germany and Austria was German. In Iraq, the population is more diverse and it would be unwise to hand over the reins of power to one small faction - particularly the faction which was relatively favored under Saddam.

A fundamentalist state is what we'll get out of the present situation no matter which way it goes.

That is your assumption. It may or may not be the way things turn out. Even if it does it doesn't mean the country will stay that way forever. Iran's fundamentalist regime is more and more unpopular.

Seems like you're the one arguing we should have left Iraq's Nazis (the Baathists) in power.
