Ray, the intellectuals stood right behind the leaders of the Communist, Fascist, and Nazi regimes, when they could have fought against them. Hitler could not have succeeded without the intellectual force of a Heidegger and the universities behind him. The Vienna Circle and the Futurists rationalized Fascism. Could Stalin have held power so long and with such brutality had the West not doubted its own resolve and eagerly made peace with "Uncle Joe"?
