Ray, You may be right about Clark. I don't have any particularly strong opinions, positive or negative, on him. He does suffer from a charisma deficiency, but then so does Dick Cheney. As for Clark being part of a Southern strategy, it is kind of hard to visualize him sitting around an Arkansas fishing hole with some real Bubbas knocking back a few brewskis. <gg> If foreign policy is the predominant issue next year, then Clark probably makes more sense. If the battleground is the economy, then Edwards is the man. As you correctly note, he probably would not be able to carry his home state in a Presidential election. I also suspect that he has probably killed his chances for re-election to the Senate. The reality seems to be that most VP selections probably don't mean a lot when people finally step into the voting booth, though a bad selection can obviously hurt a candidate. There was a lot of initial enthusiasm for Lieberman and Cheney in 2000 but ultimately it came down to a choice between Bush and Gore. Politics is going to be mean in 2004. I'm shocked. :) The Democrats are going to have to bring Carville back out onto the playing field.
