Yeah Bill. I'm trying to make some sense of this myself. You know I have always maintained that Dems and Republicans are essentially the same thing. Didn't really want to believe this, but I still think it is true. I had entertained not even voting because of my belief on this point. I eventually changed my mind here, for a variety of reasons. Bush is simply trapped in a "welfare state paradigm." He is trapped there because Americans are trapped there. If he doesn't promote the welfare state, he cannot possibly win office. That is just the way it is. Though he increases the welfare state's power in some areas, I am hoping he will try to steer us to sanity by trying to change the current underlying philosophy of our society. I can see it is a ridiculous hope, but hope springs eternal...

He has a plan that might, if passed, wean a lot of seniors from Medicare. Sounds conservative to me. As for AIDs, well, $3 billion a year is nothing, considering the scope of the humanitarian tragedy, which, incidentally, affects substantial portions of Muslim Africa, and therefore goes a long way to showing that the United States is benevolent in its dealings with Muslims.......
