I have to agree with you about the Ca testing.

My son passed the English part as a freshman but didn't pass the Math part until he was a junior. He managed to pass Integrated Math I and Integrated Math II but failed the Math state test by a couple points as a freshman and sophmore. FInally, he decided to take it seriously and told me he totally tried to pass the test.................amazing how much of a difference it made.........he passed by a very wide margin.

I am glad he passed it even though the state dropped the mandatory requirement.

Many of the kids that would have been facing next year's final attempts would have probably passed. I do believe that the state went into a panic. It thought it would be facing an embarrassing
situation with so many kids in the failing category. They didn't have the courage to leave it up to the teachers and students.
