The killing business is no doubt the kind of job that makes some men prone to exaggerating exploits, in a search to justify their existence. It can't be easy for most people to feel totally comfortable in such a job- and goodness knows what is going on in the psyche of someone who does feel comfortable. My father's life was destroyed by the guilt he felt for the bombings he participated in during WWII. I suppose it might have been healthier for my father if he could have made up a story about himself instead, but it would hardly have been healthier for humanity (imo). Mankind's ability to make up good stories to justify it's periodic killing sprees is one of the problems with our species, imo.
