<<I seem to count 12 aircraft carriers and right around 55 submarines that are currently under-employed.>>

That makes the US the big dog in the puppy fight.

<I seem to count 12 aircraft carriers and right around 55 submarines that are currently under-employed.>

Of what use are they? What can they do, other than confirm N.Korea's paranoia, that the U.S. really is "out to get them"? N. Korea has an effective deterrent, artillery in range of millions of S. Koreas, so we will not use our aircraft carriars or submarines. Not if we place any value on the lives of those S. Koreans.

Clearly, the latest adventure in Iraq has demonstrated the limiting factor, in our military capabilities: holding the ground we have conquered. Aircraft carriers and submarines, and most of our other hardware, are excellent for taking territory (or at least destroying it), and useless for holding it.
