I suspect it's something wrong with your system. I have done all the updates prior to the one that I posted about and still have all my restore points. System Restore should have automatically put in a restore point before any windows updates.

Looks as if the restore points went up in smoke when the updates were installed

One of the reasons I use third party backup software, GoBack.
