Input restrictions or Noise It is difficult to figure out for a reader. Administrators love the ignore button, it solves a variety of time consuming problems. Another good tool for administrators is thread moderation. When these tools fail, the last step is direct moderation, usually an administrator is required to review the exchanges and set guidelines. It is time consuming and due to many unmoderated threads, it is required. Community policing has varied with regimes, the Slumlords didn't really care and that was probably SI's darkest hour. The popularity of many unmoderated threads on SI is not likely to change. I think the very best forums are the unmoderated stock forums. If Bob gave me the power to ex-communicate members, I would like that, I would ex-communicate indiscriminately with great agility, as one should. To be fair, Bob could give everyone the power and we could ex-communicate each other. Does ex-communication work in the Communication Age.
