Rruff, what I am concerned about is the growing tendency to hold people hostage. Clinton was held hostage because he "stole cookies from a jar and lied about it" And for that the Repubs gave him hell and with that the country was also put through a lot of hell.

Now in California, the Repubs are up to the same pranks. They want to recall the Governor. They do not want him to work on the budget and preventing him from doing so would paralyze the State.

Furthermore, all the cronies of the Repub President are manipulating the system and putting this country through hell. You have Ahscroft running off in one direction with the Patriotic Act and relying on our flawed INTEL department for its enforcement. Then you have Wolfowitz and Rumsfeld cut loose by the President to order our young folks to go out and die in Afghanistan, Iraq and possibly Liberia and Iran. And so conceited they continue to be, they do not even want anything to do with NATO to request NATO troops in Iraq. Bush does not want to share the booty of Iraq, the oil, with France, Germany and Russia.

This is all a mess. How can we say that this still continues to be the best situation compared to other places in the world. If we have to compare at all we should compare it with what the state was in the US 10 years ago not with the state in Iraq under Saddam or some third world country.
