It is all a matter of time. The U. S. public is still demanding bigger vehicles (such as SUVs and Hummer) and higher power in spite of low mileage. They are, for the most part, not focused in economy or pollution. The bigger, the better is a common theme. They want to appear they are "the biggest and baddest" on the road, and feel safer to sit high and inside a monster.

So, the OEMs are going to concentrate on delivery of the monsters, not in adoption of the OE system unless forced by government regulation to deliver higher mileage and less pollution. We know Congress listens to the lobbyists and the OEMs are great contributors to campaigns, etc. So just how much pressure are they going to get.... sadly, very little.
