cool, i gave your review a "helpful" vote. i just got my copy last week after ordering it months ago--i don't know why it was so long in coming to press since he wrote it a year ago (but it doesn't really change his arguments). i felt some of his arguments on Japan were a bit weak and needed fleshing out--the sort of info provided in the Japan's Policy Trap book which i cited. but if he finished Dollar Crisis a year ago, he wouldn't have had time to read that book, which was published just this spring.

JPT provides a detailed look at the specific mechanisms used by Japan over the years to deal with their structural CA surplus. a number of these are counterintuitive and require an insider's perspective on Japan which i have found sorely lacking in the Japan commentary of most of the Austrian-oriented economists.

i thought Duncan did a good job in his discussion of gold-backed money and how such economies differ from fiat-backed ones.

btw, here's another book i am eager to read which is hitting the press this coming week. some excerpts of the book were presented in an excellent Atlantic Monthly cover story earlier this year.
