Over much of earth US military aircraft are either not welcome or there is no support for them or both.

The cruise missile definitely has a significant role.

Hi Lindy, in regard to Tomahawks. The time has definitely not passed, as evidence by the delivery of so many of them in the latest Gulf war. When you want to surprise an enemy who has a reasonable air defense, you wham him with Tamahawks. Planes can be shot out of the sky, Tamahawks skim near the surface and surprise the enemy. Seven Forty Sevens are a sitting duck in the initial phases of practically any future war scenario.

When a Trident is loaded with 150+ Tomahawks, it will be an amazing weapons platform, able to single handedly take out the command and control system of an enemy.

Cost is definitely a factor, which is one of the reason our enemies have not been able to build something equivalent (yet).

Our edge in undersea warfare development is not something which should be squandered lightly. The fact is we have gone from nearly 100 subs to nearly 40 in the past 15 years. The public needs to be kept aware of this rapid decrease. Owning the undersea world is as important as owning the skies. Today, we own both, unless we educate the public regarding the important role subs play, we risk losing the undersea advantage.

Anyway, Just my two cents on the issue....
