According to PBS, although many of his writings were full of vitriol against the Pope and the Catholic church he never advocated violence. His book did inflame rioting by the lower class against the church and he fomented hatred for the Jews. He sided with the secular rulers since they backed him and penned several letters against the riots but a mob never listens to reason. A man with a vision such as his has little time for formality or sweetness for those who differed with his mission. Change such as this has always involved violence. I don't side with that part of it but it is as certain as the seasons. God used violence many times to wake the Jews up. Seems they never did get the right idea. (How many times have you and I been called heretics on this thread?- good grief!!! Smile) James
