Remember Watergate started small. Then the WH denied it and tried to cover-up. Then the denials and cover-ups became th real story because everyone with a brain knew they were lying. The lesson is, come clean. But it may be too late for the Bushies to do that. Therefore, they are stuck in a no-win position. All they can do is try to spin. But their tires are spinning in deep sand. maybe even quicksand.
