<nobody likes to be duped and then have their noses rubbed in it>

Americans aren't upset about being duped. This is the Age of Lies, and we expect to be lied to by our leaders. Bush2 wouldn't be punished merely for lying, any more than Clinton was punished for getting caught lying to a Grand Jury (a felony, if you or I did it).

No, what will upset Americans, is losing another guerrila war. When our army leaves Iraq in defeat, and an Iraqi Islamic Army of Jihad crows about how they defeated us, just like Hezbollah defeated the Israelis in Lebanon, then Americans will start looking for a scapegoat. Someone has to be to blame, and it certainly can't be the guy in the mirror. It's not our fault, we were tricked into it. That's where the outrage will come from. Americans don't like losers.

i doubt anything will come off this. some if not most american citizens would rather the story go away

At this early juncture, I wouldn't be able to mount a good counter argument. However, if I recall correctly, many felt the same about Watergate - even after it was a daily front page story. We'll see.
