Quincy, the real point I was trying to make is NOT that WiFi is the preferred solution but that WiFi is only a viable solution in certain places. The general solution in my view remains wireless, using CDMA, for the majority of voice and data communications. If WiFi ends up as nothing more than a subset of general purpose wireless technology, then QUALCOMM remains the investment of choice. If WiFi, either through extreme marketing measures or simply reluctance on the part of service providers to provide 3G throughout their franchise area, becomes the only available alternative, then of course, Intel is the investment of choice.

It is not clear to me that many wireless service providers see their choices this clearly. For example, Verizon still thinks it can save its wired infrastructure investment by piggy backing WiFi on its urban DSL lines. And it thinks this may be a better solution than CDMA2000 in the same area. This is the kind of thinking that results in Intel being a good investment, and QUALCOMM being less of a good investment than it ought to be.
