with regard to washington and oregon, they should combine and then re-do these states... make one state east of the cascades, and one state west... they could call the eastern one 'goldwater' and the western one 'lenin' as for washington as it is now, with the puget sound (seattle area) basin having grown so much in population, they now dominate state politics. it used to be that the areas outside of puget sound provided a counterweight, but at some point the puget sound constituency became the clear majority... most people in the puget sound area are democrat. these people thought nothing of clinton bombing serbia to smithereens...
