I hear you on gold- unfortunately the only time it does well is when things in general are not going well, which is what I see happening in the next few years. Too much excess capacity that hasn't been worked out. Capacity utilization numbers and business investment are just soooo low. Add in the high debt levels, private and public, and things don't look so great.

China is definitely the future. Still a lot of political rhetoric but the reality is that it's becoming more and more capitalist all the time. They just have the numbers. 25 percent of the world's population or close to it. And of course they have dominant trade positions because they don't float their currency at all. So Chinese companies will do well in the future. Just a matter of avoiding the scams such as CHCL, anything on the NYSE *should* be legit.
