Sorry - I actually meant about 1/5 of the eligible electorate elected the President.

I thought the number was about 1/2 voted and < 1/2 voted for GWB. So that's 1/4. I think I got the 1/5 from an estimate of people who fail to register for various reasons from moving to not caring to illness.

In any event, the number is ridiculously low. I believe we need to make it easier, maybe even have voting over the phone and internet. If we can do tax reporting that way, then why not vote that way.

In any event, we're going way off tangent here. Americans like to go along in the status quo but if you attack us, we will unite and we will do the right thing.

In the 2000 election, 24% of all eligible votes cast their ballot for George Bush. Perhaps that was what rruff was referring to.
