I've seen some rumours that there might be oil reserves, but it's speculative. Nothing has been confirmed that I'm aware of. Trees, I think is the economy...or something like that.

No one really knows yet. Liberia is along the same gulf as Angola and Nigeria. The Ivory Coast (directly to the east) has oil and gas. This region is home to a lot of recent very sucessful exploration.
