I still think most stories I see and hear on TV are "Rip and Read" from the Wire reports.

I think so as well. Didn't know there was any question of it, pretty obvious. I like the "tack on" approach too. Take a day old story, tack on an AP update, splash on a new headline, a tada! new story!

More sloppiness at the NY Times. It appears a reporter fell for Universal's spin on this story hook, line, and sinker. When the reporter who wrote this story on Friday called Prudential, he was told he was the first reporter to have contacted them. They had been laughing out loud wondering why the NY Times hadn't called before going with the story.
