That COULD have been the people running the place and not the military. Those Mess people had a "reputation" when I was in the service for wheeling and dealing.

In part. MWR is a profit making operation throughout the Services. The rationale is that being profit oriented allows them to offer additional services. I don't mind that philosophy in principle, but I think there should be some self imposed limitations.

Skimming off the fishmonger went to far, IMO.

There was an extension added to the Strike Zone and MWR made sure that there was plenty of room for additional slots. Gambling is legal in the UK and there are some places available to do some gaming, but none are close by. I don't think it's an appropriate MWR service to provide slots that are going to be used primarily by the enlisted and/or their spouses. A pool table is great, some lanes for a bowling alley, racquet ball courts....and the enlisted can bet their little hearts out with each other. At least the money stays within the ranks of the enlisted instead of the MWR.

If I was running MWR <s>, it would be different. But I'm not, so all I can do is bitch.....not being a shy person, they got an earfull.
