The recession first appeared as dot-coms fell AND the phony Bushie energy crisis peaked. These two elements. Then instead, of seeking to balance the budget again and go the fiscally conservative route, Bushies got into power and started slashing revenues, especially from taxes for the wealthiest Americans. This when consumers were losing confidence. So the tax cuts should have been consumer-targeted and jobs-targeted not upper class trickle down. Then 9-11 and the Iraq War both of which had a terrible effect. The Iraq War itself put the world economy on hold for 9 full months. It also doubled the federal deficits. Bush has now cut taxes another 350 billion but the cuts are again targeted for the rich and investment class, so there is no jobs growth, less revenues and greater deficits, which is turn hike state and local taxes. Also, energy prices have been very high ever since Bush too office and for obvious reasons that's the way the Texans like it. Energy prices are another hidden tax. And since Bushies torpedoed McCain-Kerry's CAFE fuel efficiency bill, we're in deeper caca than ever before on energy.
