NRO? What's that? :-) I think the launch of aircraft off the carrier were on their way to Cairo. That contradicts the public sources, including the carrier captain. He was sending them to the Liberty. Reasons? I don't know. Lots of theories floating around. I'm an agnostic as to the "Why?" at this point. One theory is that the Israelis had ordered Egyptian POWs massacred in the Sinai and were afraid the Liberty had intercepted the messages. Nice theory. Except that the Egyptians have never made that claim and now have the Sinai and have surfaced no mass grave sites. I would think they would want to. Another theory: The reason the Israeli's attacked was because the Liberty was watching troop movements during the war via a satellite uplink and relaying that to the Egyptians.
