WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Clinton Funds CIA and other intelligence agencies and names the CIA's headquarters building the "George Bush Center for Intelligence."

Bush was CIA director under President Ford, serving from Jan. 30, 1976, until Ford left office Jan. 20, 1977.

"This is an appropriate and well-deserved tribute to former President Bush," Clinton said in a written statement.

Bush is the only agency alumnus to go on to the nation's highest office.

Precisely how much the government spends on intelligence is classified, but the 1999 budget is believed to provide slightly more than this year's level of $26.7 billion.

CIA headquarters is in suburban McLean, Va.
