James,

Re: I trust capitalism and free markets. I don't trust governments. One is fundamentally benign and the other coercive.

In view of the de-regulation of the California energy market via AB 1890 and the subsequent theft of $40 Billion from the ratepayers of the West Coast, I'd say your faith in "free markets" is completely naive.

Furthermore, most of the "free market" types are quite literally criminal scoundrels who are attempting to subvert and destroy democracy and the rule of law with a multiplicity of subversions. Here's a classic example of the genre:

Furhermore, you aren't quite keeping up with trends. Even as stalwart a cheerleader for "free markets" as the Economist magazine has finally had to admit that the rape and pillage crowd are going too far:

Capitalism, without the controlling hand of regulation is prone to blatant criminality, excessive greed and social destructiveness.

Surely, as a society, we can do better.

Please take some time to read Arianna Huffington's marvelous book, "Pigs at the Trough" to understand how silly it is for you to have such blind faith in "free markets". An Orwellian and devilishly devious turn of phrase if ever there was one.
