IDT Expands Offering for SME/SOHO Wireless Gateways and Wireless Access Points with New Interprise Processor

Monday July 14, 7:45 am ET

Processor Delivers Increased Functionality and Integration at a Compelling Price/Performance Point

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 14, 2003-- IDT(TM) (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.; Nasdaq: IDTI), a leading communications IC company, today strengthened its presence in the small and medium enterprise (SME) and small office/home office (SOHO) markets with the introduction of its new RC32336 Interprise(TM) integrated communications processor. Delivering performance up to 180 MHz, the RC32336 Interprise(TM) processor offers designers of wireless gateway and wireless access point equipment increased functionality and integration, allowing for connectivity to a wide range of networking devices including wireless local area network (WLAN) chipsets. The new IDT device expands the company's broad portfolio of Interprise(TM) processors and enables system developers to design fully featured and cost-effective solutions at a compelling price/performance point.

"IDT is committed to providing integrated processors that meet our customers' demands for higher levels of performance and greater functional integration to satisfy the requirements of both existing and emerging high-growth segments of the data networking industry," said Alex Soohoo, strategic marketing manager for the Internetworking Products Division at IDT. "Our new RC32336 Interprise(TM) processor is targeted at the cost-sensitive, high-volume SME/SOHO wireless gateway and wireless access point markets. However, the processor's performance and the incorporation of several general-purpose interfaces also make it a compelling device for markets our existing Interprise(TM) processors currently serve, such as wired SOHO gateways, SOHO routers and managed Layer-2 Ethernet switches."

Performance and Integration Allow Range of Connectivity and Lower
System Costs

The RC32336 Interprise(TM) integrated communications processor incorporates a 32-bit MIPS® CPU core operating up to 180 MHz, enabling both single and dual-band WLAN designs, and is compatible with a range of real-time operating systems, including Linux® and VxWorks®. The addition of two Ethernet media access controllers (MACs) with industry standard media independent interfaces (MIIs) provides connectivity to a wide range of networking devices and equipment. The RC32336 Interprise(TM) processor also integrates a 16-bit PCMCIA version 2.1 interface that provides system designers with a seamless connection to a range of peripherals and chipsets, including WLAN solutions. Like existing members of the Interprise(TM) PCI family, the RC32336 Interprise(TM) processor incorporates a 32-bit version 2.2 peripheral component interconnect (PCI) controller, as well as an SDRAM memory controller that interfaces to a full range of industry-standard memory products, enabling designs optimized for cost and board real estate conservation.

The RC32336 Interprise(TM) processor is software compatible with the other members of the Interprise(TM) family, allowing customers to choose from a suite of proven off-the-shelf application software and development tools that lower design cycles and speed time to market.

Pricing and Availability

The IDT RC32336 Interprise(TM) integrated communications processor is currently sampling. Pricing for the device starts at $15 in 10,000-unit quantities. Good move.

What's this with Silicon Investor charging charter members? I have belonged to SI nearly since it started up. I'll drop it if they charge me for access. The founders are probably long gone . . and smiling from ear to ear after selling out during the bubble!
