The announcement came as India said it would not send a promised division that would have added 17,000 troops to the forces on the ground, although the Pentagon said there was no connection between the extended deployment and New Delhi's decision. Some of my Indian friends told me that never before have all Indians across the spectrum, from the far Left to the far Right and everywhere in between, been so united on one issue as the decision not to send Indian troops to Iraq under US command.
