Bush tax cuts for rich cost charities 10 billion per year. check it out. Who's going to replace that money, the right-wing churches? No way.

The problem with charities is they can't do the job the government can.

After 3500 years of the Judeo-Christian ethic of charity to the needy poverty in the U.S. was about 40% and over 50% among the elderly in the so called Roaring 20's.

After a mere 60 (or so) years of progressive liberal government programs, poverty is around 12% and the elderly are doing great in America.

There's no comparison. Charities are great, but they can't solve big problems the way government can.

And for those of you who will argue charities are actually more capable than government (despite the overwhelming evidence against) why not turn the military over to charity as you would education and services to the poor?
