Give Sandy Weill Some Credit
Wednesday July 16, 9:14 am ET

By James J. Cramer,

The most impressive characteristic of Sandy Weill, the outgoing CEO of Citigroup (NYSE:C - News), is his uncanny ability to buy a major asset at the right time. He caught the credit cycle right with Commercial Credit. He caught the insurance cycle right with Travelers (NYSE:TAPa - News). He caught the brokerage cycle right over and over again.

Which is why the bears on credit cards have to be shaking today. Because Sandy's acquisition of Sears' (NYSE:S - News) credit card business says, louder than anything the mutual or hedge fund managers can say, that this is a fundamentally sound business.
