"Noble intentions can have unintended consequences."

Of course, we cannot know the future or control all the seen and unseen forces of the universe (its a complicated place with a lot of unknown factors); and tyrannical brutality can backfire to the extent that the the world is made a better place for a time. It's kind of troubling that things work that way but, hey; I never promised you a rose garden, now did I. I've been considering a move to a better planet but haven't located a suitable one...yet.

I hope you are not suggesting that we should outlaw good intentions?

Communism tried to substitute the "good" human motivations for self interest. Pol Pot probably most completely.

I would not call what Pol Pot or Stalin did charity.
