Well, just to play devil's advocate for a second, usually a hike in dividend is an admission that "the growth days are in the past" and that "we're now into the 'milking it phase'", which implies the company is fully valued; so we should "return the money to it's rightful owners since we have no productive use for it".

Now, back to our regularly scheculed programming...
