To artificially inflate the US equity markets and closely dictate the price of oil by undermining OPEC and the EU's emerging relationship with them. That's why France and Germany hate the US now, btw.

Now, think about how many innocent people (on both sides) perished horribly in agonizing pain just so Uncle S and his brokerage house sidekicks could pump up the DUNG by ~65% in just a matter of months for political reasons. Political debts were coming due, you know, and an election year draws near. -ng-

whole thing is a sick joke --- there never was any real threat.

Wanted to give Bush the benefit of the doubt on this "dumb" thing -- but he's taken away all MY doubts.
