It was designed to help the big boys (banks, monied aristocracy, "captains" of industry, etc.) leverage their power and capital, and it does a very elegant job of it.
Yes, it does its job quite well.

How many former millionaires do you know? People who had $1M+ in assets in the '90s and don't now?
And not because the spent the money; they never got their hands on it. THAT was their mistake.

Seems that the main purpose of the talking heads, and mainstream media in general, is misdirection - "Hey look over here!" - while the real deals are done behind doors that are far from transparent.
News is definitely manipulated- -and quite well too. Generally there is almost no dissent from the party line among the majors. Now THAT is an accomplishment. These guys may be the moneyed classes, but they are often at each other's throats in other areas.

Or am I getting to cynical again. :-)
