As you know better than anyone else, outsourcing is contracting to a third party business. What Oracle has is another development center manned and staffed by Oracle employees. All work is done in-house, just so happens to be outside US. So, you may want to re-assess your position in the light of the fact that, the people who are doing the work are Oracle employess who have as much vested interest in Oracle's success and growth as anyone in the US would. They are hired from the best of the colleges and univ in india. Actually, the hiring practices are quite rigid about getting the best of the people. Further, the people who do most of the work at Oracle in the USA come from different backgrounds including India. Oracle has never fired people here just to hire more in India or anywhere else. That has NEVER happened. What might be true is there is a general shift towards getting the development work by equally capable people but at a lower salary in USD terms. But that is just a business practice and would not have anything to do with inferior or superior quality. Your point about customer interaction may require a re-assessment as well. Most of such things are handled in the US through Oracle Support etc. All of the other customer interactions, like focus groups..etc is done in the US. Much is being made about this so-called outsourcing. What is happening is that Oracle is putting in place a model where it can get the best of both worlds. No different from Intel having design centers in Israel and India. BTW, I have heard that People Soft and Siebel are actually doing the real outsourcing, i.e to third parties. I dont know if that is true, but I don't think they have an elaborate software development center in India as Oracle does. Ramesh
