I thought the deal is dead? China decides to use the bullet train from Japan for the express railroad from Beijing to Shanghai.

LOL.

I agree that a lot of manufacture technology will end up in China, and China has enough smart people to develop their own technology, but it will take some time. Especially in terms of clean/environment-friendly energy, China, as well as other developing countries, needs them now and fast. I would not worry about the availibility of the energy as much as the pollution brought by those millions of new cars in China in the next 20 years.
