Well put Jacob.......
Energy Independence........what a notion.....?
Big oil has strangled that baby...time and time again
All the while ...sporting tiny flags on their collective lapels
Stay Well

Well it wouldn't have been on my agenda. I do think that we should have protected a region that is as strategically important to the US as the Gulf but I don't think we should go around changeing the governments in the area without at least as much provocation as Saddam Hussien has given us over the years.

Energy independence sounds nice, but its difficult and expensive and it still wouldn't make oil unimportant because even if the US didn't have to import oil, most of the world would.

Its not mainly a matter of R&D we have the technology for any number of alternatives to oil, is the fact that most of them cost more, and that we would have to replace many billions, perhaps trillions of dollars of infrastructure.
