How would he get reinfected after a successful restore?

It's my understanding that any time you restore to a previously made point, a "go back to where I was" point is made automatically. If you decide that the restore you did doesn't help you can undo it. The choice to do that is on the opening screen of System Restore. If we knew it was a worm or virus that could be cleaned you should just get rid of all restore points before cleaning it. That eliminates the possibility of reinfection.
