To be perfectly honest, I cannot understand 18-year olds living in prosperous countries at peace who volunteer for the army.

I sympathize with their suffering in war, surely, but to a lesser degree than the civilians they kill...

I guess the gatlin gun made that not such a smart idea>

The Chinese called this "human wave" "human ocean", when MacArthur got greedy in Korea-thats what they did. The SK and allies could not reload fast enough as the wave hit and over ran them. Probably still part of the protocol.
