"- not one recent "new nation" (frmr east block, etc) has decided on a two-party system"

That is disingenuous. NO-ONE has "decided" on a two-party system. Certainly it is in the interests of many to have two parties maintain control. As a matter of fact, though...I would like to see other party candidancy rules softened. I can see the democratic advantages of two equally powerful parties (even if others can not)...but the fringe candidates ought to be allowed to represent their supporters.

"Btw, i have heard that Israel-example "for ages""

That may be; but if you have known any residents of Israel, then you will appreciate the insane politicking and confusion that informs their election campaigns. It becomes a game of "Risk" rather than a simple vote on principle. As I said, where a multi-party system favours two parties as a result of democratic process of people voting their principles and their values...well, it could be a lot worse. I would prefer, however, that the rules do not restrict candidacy.

Years ago, I played the horses a fair bit. People could vote on any horse they wished...but in practice most of the money went on approximately two horses. No matter how much one likes the colour or the tail of the 50 to 1 mudder, though...they have a self interest in being part of the winning team.

This inequality of self interest (indeed this prerogative of the individual) may be anathema to those of socialist or communist leaning. But you cannot please everyone...and who would want to?
